“The Quest”

“Grandfather spoke again, saying, “Trying to live a spiritual life in modern society is the most difficult path one can walk. It is a path of pain, of isolation, and of shaken faith, but that is the only way that our Vision can become reality. Thus the true Quest in life is to live the philosophy of the Earth within the confines of man. There is no church or temple we need to seek peace, for ours are the temples of the wilderness. There are no spiritual leaders, for our hearts and the Creator are our only leaders. Our numbers are scattered; few speak our language or understand the things that we live. Thus we walk this path alone, for each Vision, each Quest, is unique unto the individual. But we must walk within society or our Vision dies, for a man not living his Vision is living death.   --  From the book “The Quest” by Tom Brown Jnr., first published 1991.

Sunshine

When I was 3 years old, my nickname was Sunshine. The sun shone from my face. When I was 30 my nickname was sunshine because I thought the sun shone out of my pants.

Natural Law - Getting Past the EGO (Extract from the Path Walker Book)

TracedHand2 There’s a vast difference between GOT TO and “LOVE TO” head space. One is the EGO mind, or EMOTIONAL BODY, or as Eckardt Tolle calls it, PAIN BODY, and the other isn’t. If I can get past my EGO I won’t have mental health issues. I’ll be 100% focussed, and in the NOW.

The Professor

"he's a grand master from China... unbelievable healer." my friend was at that level of infatuation that makes us all sceptical. We have a radar for "over the top stories."

I was bummed out from over enthusiasm myself. I'd just done too much transformation work, yoga and meditation. My adrenals were dead and my heart broken from yet another quarrel with my ex wife about access to my children. I booked a session...

Sacred Animals - The Real Spirit

Most of us have played with a pack of cards that reveal your animal guide. But, when I visited this old guy in his remote shack, in some remote dusty corner of the Sedona landscape, I had no idea what it really meant.

Awakenings

I woke up one day with clouds swirling in my head. Too many thoughts. I did my yoga, meditated for a while, drank coffee. Nothing worked. To be honest, I didn't even know what the thoughts were about. My mind just needed to think. Nothing made sense. Nothing I thought about came to an end. I just thought and thought and thought.

Australia Day

Helena and Me in Kayak Sydney Harbour on a warm, calm day is really one of the most beautiful places on earth. I paddle a sea kayak every second day but this time, I borrowed a double kayak and Helena joined me. It was so great to be together out there. Great to be in a double kayak too, much better than two singles given Helena can't swim and is not built for endurance kayaking.

We paddled all over the harbour and stopped at a great harbour side cafe for lunch. Our journey home wasn't so smooth as the pictures show. The wind came up a bit and made it a bit more challenging.

Today is Australia Day and we'll be out again, taking a picnic and beaching on a deserted Island somewhere out in the harbour. It's a wonderful way to share our time.

Cocuy, Columbia, Seira Nevada

NIC_3192 Great to be back out in the wild again. After a massive bus ride of 12 hours over some rather amazing terrain we reached the small town of Cocuy. This is where Nepal must have been 30 years ago with a great asset and just an inkling of the potential it could be for tourists.

Poor safety standards aside Cocuy is the gateway to an exceptional panorama and some sensational trekking up to around 5300 meters. It's so diverse up here. Cactus, lakes and snow peaks ... unreal.

Meeting with local people you can't help but get a button on the Spanish invaders who pillaged and killed the indigenous people of South America. Cocuy was one of the most abused and the problems continued right through to the early 50's when three Catholic priest formed a sort of militia to eliminate any modernisation. They exterminated hundreds of people.

These are a people who seem to smile regardless. Even 7 years ago a bloody war raged between the guerrillas and the government and the town was completely occupied by the guerrillas. There's no sign of it now though.

The great uniqueness of this area are the incredible high mountain lakes. Snow lines are receding everywhere creating an even more incredible contrast between the desert and the mountains.

I wasn't all that keen on the potato soup for breakfast. A potato boiled and served as soup was not exactly what I expected but, according to locals exactly what I needed.

I'd recommend this trek to anyone looking to break away from the tourist route. However, I believe it gets quite busy in January.

Some photos.

Compassion at Christmas

I am in Colombia celebrating Christmas with my new family. Their nightly prayers leading up to Christmas day include readings from a book of prayers, singing and joyful celebration. Small fiesta’s …

It is so wonderful to see the spiritual side of Christmas bringing people together in their religious context, praying and thanking their God for life. It is a far cry from the threats and terrorism of the extremist element that cause our world to become unwell.

I think of the 20,000 children in the world who die each day from starvation and deprivation, and the ever widening gap between the have’s and the have not’s. It is so easy to immerse ourselves in little worlds when the bigger one needs our prayers as well.

I’ll bet there’s an orphanage near you, or one you could donate to you such as the Sunrise Orphanage in Nepal. (SCAI If you’re searching for it.)

Only half the world celebrates Christmas with a full belly and gifts under a tree. While we need to be abundant with generosity with our family and friends it’s also a great time to give to those who have fallen to the back end of life. Every hospital, Salvation army and Christian church has a program to support the needy and money is just one of the currencies to help with.

Walking the talk

PC070889  The consciousness of Chris Walker. As I walked around Bogota and got to know the city, I realise how much my own evolution has excluded me from some parts of the world's great reality. Here in this town there are areas you just don't go into, because you probably don't come out.

Bogota, Colombia

After months of warming up, finally left Aussie for the month in Colombia. The usual dramas of flight were  compounded by a 3 minute connection in Charlotte, a sprint between terminals and worries about my trekking gear not making it on the flight. Like my Dad used to say, "90% of what I worried about never happened" - all turned out well and I'll never know whether the prayers had any effect. I made my connections in Miami and down here to Bogota, Colombia.

Strict lectures on how not to show any form of wealth, my camera, my wallet. How to avoid strangers and pick pockets, and new techniques for sedating tourists have made it all the more romantic. At 2500 meters Bogota is at the same altitude as the fist step in the Himalayas (Lukla) so it'll take a day or so to adjust.

Met the new in laws and in spite of minimal Spanish on my part and less English on theirs we're doing great.

Today a Confirmation party for one of the nephews and then off to shopping to prepare for the Andes trip on Monday. Helena (my wife) totally happy to be home with her man.

Journey to awakening

You'd think that with all the wonderful books, and all the amazing teachers on earth, the journey from dumb dumb to spiritually aware individual would be a weekend immersion, a few bucks out of my bank account and a good read. Well, for some people that maybe the case, but for me, it didn't happen like that.

TIPS. Rising out of emotional drama

Our inner environment like our outer environment is prone to accidental oil spills. It is also prone to pollutions from the leakage like other people's stress and illness. There have been many masters on this earth. They have taught many ways of rising out of emotion. Many men find it hard. It is mainly because the processes that have been taught are for the feminine side of us, and the masculine has rarely been addressed.

TIPS; Trust is more important than love.

You can trust someone you don't love, but you can't love someone you don't trust.
Trust is one of the most precious commodities on earth. Self trust, other trust, life trust, client trust. Trust is a high mind state. Lack of trust, suspicion and doubt are hell on earth.
